Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 30, 2026

This is a translation of the German privacy policy. If in doubt, the German version applies.

In short

  • Your time belongs to you. SimpleTime needs no account, shows no ads and doesn’t track you.
  • Your entries live on your devices and in your private iCloud – nobody else can read them, not even us. SimpleTime has no servers of its own.
  • This website sets no cookies of its own, uses no analytics and loads nothing from third parties.

Who is responsible

The controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) for the SimpleTime app and this website is:

Luca Efinger

The SimpleTime app

SimpleTime is built so that we don’t need your data. Everything you enter – tasks, entries with their times and notes, goals, reminders and settings – is stored on your device. The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party SDKs, and it doesn’t send your data to servers of ours: there are none. We have no access to your data at any time.

iCloud sync

If you’re signed in to iCloud, SimpleTime syncs your data between your devices using Apple’s CloudKit, in the private database of your iCloud account. Apple transmits and stores the data encrypted; Apple’s privacy policy applies. We cannot see or access this data. You can turn sync off in the iOS Settings under your name › iCloud – your data then stays on the device.

Backups

If you turn on automatic backups or export a backup, SimpleTime saves a file with your tasks, entries and reminders – automatically in your iCloud Drive (folder “SimpleTime/Backups”), or wherever you choose. If you set a password, the file is encrypted on your device (AES-GCM) before it’s saved; without the password, nobody can open it – including us. Of the automatic backups, the 20 most recent are kept.

Location (places)

Only if you set up places – a feature of SimpleTime Pro – does SimpleTime ask for access to your location. iOS then monitors the areas you defined and tells the app when you arrive or leave; SimpleTime uses this solely to start or stop the matching task. Your places are stored only on this device and aren’t synced. SimpleTime keeps no record of where you’ve been and doesn’t pass your location on.

When you search for an address or use the map in the place editor, the search and the map are provided by Apple Maps; Apple’s privacy policy applies. You can withdraw access to your location at any time in the iOS Settings.

Notifications

Reminders and place notices are created and delivered on your device as local notifications. To keep sync up to date, iCloud may wake the app in the background through Apple’s push service; these messages contain none of your content.

Photos

To save a chart or a review as an image, SimpleTime asks for permission to add photos. It can only add images – it cannot see your photo library.

App lock, Face ID and Touch ID

If you use the app lock, iOS checks Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode; SimpleTime only learns whether the check succeeded. Your own code and the backup password are stored in the keychain on your device.

Siri, Shortcuts, search and widgets

If you use Siri, Apple processes your request; SimpleTime only receives the recognised action. So that you can start tasks from iPhone search, task names are added to the search index on your device – but not while the app lock is on. Widgets, the Live Activity and the Apple Watch app get their data from the app on your devices; the watch receives it directly from your iPhone.

Diagnostics

If SimpleTime crashes or freezes, iOS gives the app a diagnostic report. It stays on your device, contains no tasks and no times, and leaves your device only if you share it yourself – for example by email to us. Independently of this, if you’ve allowed your device to share analytics with app developers (iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple provides us with crash reports and statistics that don’t identify you.

Purchases

SimpleTime Pro is bought through the App Store. Apple handles the payment and the subscription; we receive no payment details and no personal data about you. The app only asks the App Store whether Pro is active. From Apple, we receive sales reports without personal data.

Ratings

SimpleTime may ask for a rating once, using Apple’s system dialog. We don’t learn whether or how you rated.

Export and sharing

CSV files, PDF reports, backups and images are created on your device. Where they go is up to you – you decide in the share sheet.

Deleting your data

In the app’s settings under Privacy › Delete all data, you remove everything SimpleTime has stored at once – on this device, in iCloud and in the backups in iCloud Drive; via iCloud, the deletion also reaches your other devices. Deleting the app removes its data from that device.

This website

Hosting and delivery

simple-time.app is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc., 101 Townsend Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA. When you open a page, your browser necessarily transmits technical data – in particular your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser’s identification (user agent). Cloudflare processes this data to deliver the website and to protect it against attacks and abuse, and may store it briefly in log files for this purpose. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure and reliable website (Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, and we have concluded a data processing agreement with Cloudflare. More information: cloudflare.com/privacypolicy

Error reports

If a page can’t be loaded, your browser may send a short technical error report to Cloudflare (Network Error Logging) – for example the address, the type of error and your IP address. It serves solely to detect network problems.

Cookies and local storage

We don’t set any cookies. In individual cases, Cloudflare may set a technically necessary cookie (__cf_bm) to tell people and bots apart; it isn’t used for tracking. If you switch between light and dark mode, your browser saves this choice in its local storage – it never leaves your device. The search on the FAQ page runs entirely in your browser.

No analytics, no third parties

This website uses no analytics or tracking tools, no advertising and no social media plugins, and it loads no fonts or scripts from other servers. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, where Apple’s privacy policy applies.

Email

If you write to us, we use your email address and your message to answer you (Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR). Our email is hosted on our behalf by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. We delete messages as soon as they’re no longer needed, unless we’re legally required to keep them.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data (Art. 15 GDPR), to have it corrected (Art. 16) or erased (Art. 17), to restrict its processing (Art. 18), to data portability (Art. 20), and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). To exercise these rights, simply write to us. Because the app doesn’t store anything about you with us, a request usually concerns emails or this website; you can view, export and delete your app data yourself at any time.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority – for example the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.

Changes

We update this privacy policy when the app, the website or the law changes. The date at the top shows the version that applies.
